Abstract

The thesis describes about the utilization of sulfonyl chloride in organic synthesis. Sulfonyl chlorides such as p-toluenesulfonyl chloride (Tosyl chloride) and methanesulfonyl chloride (Mesyl chloride) are cheap and readily available from the commercial sources. In continuation of our previous work, we have deployed tosyl chloride in the one pot conversion of carboxylic acid to ketone. This transformation has many advantages over the previously reported procedures. To newlinerepresent our work in a particular manner, four different chapters have been prepared. newlineThe first chapter of the thesis talks about various utilization of the tosyl chloride in organic synthesis. In this chapter, roles of tosyl chlorides in various reactions are summarized. newlineSecond chapter describes about different methods available in literature for the conversion of carboxylic acid to ketone in a one pot fashion. newlineThird chapter is related to the utilization of tosyl chloride in the one pot conversion of carboxylic newlineacid to ketone. Advantages and some drawbacks of this process are mentioned in this part. newlineAnd the last chapter demonstrates the modified version of the abovementioned transformation using tosyl chloride. newline
