a study on higher secondary students problem solving ability in chemistry in relation to certain selected variables

Abstract

Realizing the importance of the need of the hour the present study has newlinebeen undertaken on Higher Secondary Students Problem Solving Ability in newlineChemistry in relation, their Scientific Attitude and Science Interest and newlineEmotional Stability study conducted in Cuddalore District of Tamilnadu, India. newlineThe objectives of this study were to study the level of higher secondary newlinestudents problem solving ability in Chemistry, Scientific attitude, Science newlineinterest and Emotional stability. The selected dependent and independent newlinevariables were subjected to analysis with demographic variables like Gender, newlineLocality of the students, Type of Management of schools, Religion, Parents newlineEducational Status and Community. Null hypotheses were framed for framed newlineobjectives. For the present investigation the investigator applied normative newlinesurvey method. The tools used for the present study are: Problem Solving newlineAbility In Chemistry Scale (PSAICS) to be constructed and validated by the newlineinvestigator, Scientific Attitude Scale (SAS) constructed and validated by Sood. newlineJ.K., (1978), Science Interest Inventory (SII) to be constructed and validated by newlineNellaiappen. N.O., (1991), and Emotional Stability Scale (ESS) to be constructed newlineand validated by Uma Maheswari. P., (2012). newlineThe following are the important findings of the present investigation: The newlinehigher secondary students show an average level of problem solving ability in newlineChemistry, Unfavorable Scientific Attitude, Science Interest, high level of newlineEmotional Stability, For the selected variables, demographic variables like newlineGender, Locality Religion, Mothers Educational Status and Community have newlineshown no significant difference, but the other demographic variables like Type newlineof Management of Schools, Fathers Educational Status and Type of family have newlineshown significant difference among the selected variables newline
