Synthesis and Characterization of Polymer Ceramic based Composites for Electronic Applications

Abstract

ABSTRACT newlineThe three-phase PVA-BFO-PZT-Ag composite films were fabricated through the solution processing method by dissolving polyvinyl alcohol in water and stirring for 2h at 800C. Then, the desired amount of Ag and 10 vol % of BiFeO3-PbZrTiO3 (BFO-PZT) were mixed with water under room temperature ultrasonication method for 1 h to the uniform dispersion of BFO-PZT-Ag composites. Before this, BiFeO3-PbZrTiO3 particles were synthesized via traditional solid-state reaction technique by mixing stoichiometric proportion of Bismuth oxide (Bi2O3), Iron oxide (Fe2O3), Lead Oxide (Pb3O4), Titanium dioxide (TiO2), and Zirconium oxide (ZrO2) powders systematically incorporated in an agate mortar in an air atmosphere for 2 h and then in methanol for 2 h and subjected to calcinations at 950 C for 4 h. However, the Ag nano particles can also be synthesized by taking Silver nitrate (1mM) and precursors of Hydrazine hydrate as a metal salt and a stabilizing agent along with surfactant cetyl tri ammonium bromide (CTAB). The suspension of BFO-PZT-Ag was poured into the mixture of PVA solution. The mixture so obtained was stirred with a continuous magnetic stirrer to make sure that the Ag particles are uniformly dispersed in the polymeric matrix composites. The resultant polymer composite in the forrm of films was made by casting onto a clean Petri dish and specific heat in an oven at temperature 800 C for 12 h to eliminate any traces of the solvent. The ceramic-based polymer composites containing 10, 20, 30, and 40 wt% of BFO-PZT were synthesized by following a similar process in the absence of Ag content for comparison. The absorption spectra of silver sol consisting of a single sharp peak at Émax =418 nm in the UV visible regions have been observed and this may be owing to the excitation of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) regions. The use of three-component systems i.e. PVA-BFO-PZT in presence of Ag nanoparticles has enhanced the interfacial adhesion of two-component systems and the particles are well coated and dispersed in
