Abstract
In the competitive world of today sports are not only meant for leisure. The various sports activity performed now a day involve competitiveness which encourages rivalry, aggression, use of inappropriate means to win the competition. Psychology plays a crucial role in sports performance. The need for understanding role of various psychological parameters like stress, anxiety, aggression, passion, mental toughness and ways of coping in performance has been felt by researchers from time to time. Psychological parameters may enhance sports performance or their negative impact can hamper performance of players therefore planners, trainers and coaches should take care of psychological aspect while incorporating activities to enhance performance of players especially in team games. In present descriptive study the researcher enrolled 712 School, State and School National level players to investigate the differences among different ball (n-320) and ball-bat (n-392) game players in relation to their passion, mental toughness and ways of coping. The observations of the study revealed that both the game players possess almost equal average passion score. The ball-bat game players were mentally tougher than ball game players in spite of adopting similar ways of coping. Among ball game players volley ball players and among ball-bat game cricket players were found most passionate. Even volley ball players were mentally tougher than other ball game players. But soft ball players were mentally tougher than cricket and hockey players. Ways of coping was more frequently practiced by basketball players and soft ball players in their respective game category.
