Seed Storage Studies and Effect of Grafting Month and Procurement of Scion Stick on Success of Grafting in Jackfruit Artocarpus Hetrophyllas Lam

Abstract

newline The present investigation entitled Seed storage studies and effect of grafting newlinemonth and procurement of scion stick on success of grafting in jackfruit (Artocarpus newlineheterophyllus Lam.) was carried out at Regional Fruit Research Station, Vegurle, Dist newlineSindhudurg under Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli during newlinethe year 2022-23 and 2023-24. newlineIn experiment first, different seed storage methods i.e. C1: Screw cap plastic newlinebottles, C2: Polybag 300 gauge + Screw cap plastic bottles, C3: Earthen pot, C4: newlineStorage in polybag and wrapping with gunny bags, C5: Earthen pot buried in soil and newlineC6: Control was used for storing the seed for further study. newlineThe results exhibited significant effect of various treatment combinations on newlineseed germination and subsequent growth of jackfruit seedlings during both the year of newlineexperimentation. From the data, it is concluded that, maximum germination newlinepercentage (87.96 %), minimum germination period (22.90 days) and high seed newlinevigour (94.70) was recorded in treatment C1 whereas, minimum germination newlinepercentage (59.04 %), maximum germination period (31.30 days) and minimum newlineseedling vigour (70.54) was recorded in treatment C6 (control). Minimum days newlinerequired for initiation of germination (10.89 days), minimum days required for 50 % newlinegermination (17.62 days), highest germination index (40.69), maximum germination newlinevalue (22.31), lowest speed of emergence (6.70 days) was recorded in treatment C5 newlinewhereas, maximum days required for initiation of germination (17.03 days), newlinemaximum days required for 50 % germination (24.28 days), lowest germination index newline(8.64), minimum germination value (5.17) and highest speed of germination newline(16.56days) was recorded in treatment C6. (control) Highest seedling height (31.69, newline40.73 and 50.67 cm), seedling girth (4.13, 5.06and 6.13 mm) and number of leaves newline(4.84, 6.10 and 8.03) was recorded in treatment C4 whereas, lowest plant height newline(25.00, 31.34 and 39.68), seedling girth (3.65, 4.33 and 5.04 mm) and number of le
