Abstract

In Northern Indian, Jammu Kashmir and its adjoining states Punjab and Himachal Pradesh have claim to fame for their natural beauty as well as rich culture and civilistaion. The rituals and folklore music also a centre of attraction and act as identical landmark for these three areas. Due to the geographical position, the Majha area of Punjab is joined in North with Duggar area of Jammu and Kashmir and with Kangra and Chamba from NorthEast side. The researcher observed a number of similarites in terms of their music, especially folk music, folklore, musical instruments, religious practices, traditions etc. In this research thesis, the researcher did a comparative study of the folk music and folklore of Duggar (JK) and its neighbouring areas like Majha (Punjab), Chamba and Kangra (HP) areas. The researcher also conducted some interviews with renowned artists, music maestros, and scholars of these areas in order to get authentic information as much as possible. newline
