A generic framework for accounting and billing of physical resources in federated cloud environment

Abstract

Cloud Federation interconnects Cloud computing environments of two or more Cloud Providers (CPs). In a Federated environment, accounting and billing of resources is important. Therefore, a detailed study of existing pricing mechanisms and revenue sharing mechanisms in Federated Cloud environment has been carried out. A generic accounting and billing framework has been proposed to charge customers for the resource consumption of their services requested in Cloud Federation. The proposed Framework is comprised of four logical layers: Data Management Layer, Monitoring Layer, Accounting Layer and Billing Layer. Each layer performs different functions to calculate bills and revenues. A Cloud Federation scenario is simulated using CloudSim to implement, evaluate and verify the proposed framework. A Java application is developed to view the bills, revenues and generate reports. newline
