dc.description.abstractThe recent growth in the technologies like wireless communication, digital electronics and processors promoted the implementation of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) in many application fields like Industries, Medical, Security and Surveillance. The sensor nodes are used in Wireless Sensor Network for sensing, processing and transmitting the data to the base station. The sensor node is powered through battery and hence energy conservation in newlinesensor network is more important. The maximum power is dissipated for performing transmission so that, selection of optimum path is essential to overcome congestion in the Wireless Sensor Network and also to increase the lifetime of the node. Error correction codes are introduced to overcome the increase in data error rate because of internal noise and external noise, and congestion in the Wireless Sensor Network. In error correction code, parity bits are added with the transmitted data packet to overcome the occurrence of data bit errors during transmission, to detect the bit error in the received data packet and to apply error correction based on the parity value received. Hamming codes, Reed Solomon codes, and Turbo codes are the error correction codes used widely in wireless communication. Among these, Turbo code has the ability to reach the Shannon limit and hence it is implemented in Wireless Sensor Network to enhance the lifetime of the sensor nodes.
