Development of Agro Based Ionic Polymer Strain Sensors

Abstract

Agro-based Ionic Polymer Strain Sensors (IPSS) are required in humidity sensors, wearable sensors, actuators, fuel cell, human-machine interface, water purifier, battery, and super-capacitor applications. Ionic liquids and polyelectrolytes have been extensively employed in previous IPSSs for applications such as sensing skin, strain, and pressure sensors. The fabrication of these IPSSs involved the use of expensive and hazardous materials. Here we developed different new agro-based IPSSs using different agro-based inexpensive natural electrolyte like sugarcane extract (SCN), phyllanthus emblica(PE) juice, Lemon attached poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) membrane. newlineIPSSs have historically been utilised extensively for strain, pressure and skin sensor applications using polyelectrolytes and ionic liquid. These IPSS were made from hazardous ingredients. Here, we create a new type of IPSS by attaching a poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) membrane to sugarcane extract (SCN). PVA/SCN (1/2.72) IPSS demonstrated gauge factor (GF=76) and sensitivity (and#916;R/R=0.69) higher than that of PVA. The agro-based ionic polymer derived from sugarcane extract, incorporating bagasse, iron (Fe), and sulphur (S) demonstrated enhanced ionic conductivity, a high dielectric constant, and improved mechanical properties when compared to pure PVA. These aforesaid qualities improved the piezoresistive behaviour PVA/SCN IPSS. The tensile strain and ionic conductivity of PVA/SCN (1/2.72) IPSS were 13 and 43 times higher than those of the pure PVA polymer, respectively. Wearable electronics will benefit from our suggested PVA/SCN IPSS because they are reasonably priced and biocompatible. Our suggested PVA/SCN IPSS are reasonably priced and biocompatible, and they will find use in applications for humidity sensors, wearable sensors, actuators, batteries, fuel cells and super-capacitors. newlineThe need for the environment friendly flexible sensors arises from prolonged contact between the human body and wearable technology devices. ......
