Abstract
In the global scenario, communication which plays a pivotal role in day to
newlineday affairs is the latest social discipline. The present exploration aims at analyzing
newlinethe defects in the existing curriculum and its treatments and then suggesting
newline(bringing out) useful recommendations and solutions.
newlineEnglish is being spoken in more than 143 countries and the skills in
newlinecommunication of the language are of paramount interest and importance. Though it
newlineis a foreign language, the elites and educated among Indians feel comfortable in
newlinecommunication. Unfortunately in the present curricula of universities and colleges,
newlinethe primary aim of teaching English is defeated because of the obsolete methods and
newlinepractices of teaching. Hence, the researcher feels that a timely exploration into this
newlinearea is quite imperative and this research will shed adequate light on communication
newlineskills in practical terms.
newlineThe specific area for research is limited to the present curricula of English in
newlineEngineering Colleges in Tamilnadu and the deficiencies in learning that deter the net
newlineresult of useful communication after one s graduation. The present curriculum is
newlineteacher centered which negates involvement and inclusion of students and their
newlineparticipation. In this context, the learners are almost reduced to the level of silent
newlinespectators to watch the dull movements of the teacher and listen to his monotonous
newlineharangue. The antics and utterances of the teachers fade without fascinating the
newlinestudents altogether. Hence, he needs to be a working facilitator. Further the class
newlineroom should be made students friendly.
newlineThe research proposes to provide corrective methods and techniques to get rid
newlineof the defects in the curricula. The following techniques namely Brain Storming
newlineActivities, Mind Map and Reasoning Gap Activities will plug the loopholes in the
newlinecurricula. The findings will be a new vista that shall lead the learners to enrich their
newlinecommunicative abilities.
