Abstract

A study entitled, Management of periodicals in college libraries affiliated to newlineSwami Ramananad Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded: A study was conducted newlineto review the management of periodicals section in the college libraries. The research newlinefocussed on section of periodicals, library budget specially provision for periodicals, newlinestaff, computer relevance, selection to collection and circulation of periodicals newlineincluding processing, display, and preservation of periodicals. It also focused the newlinegrowth of periodicals include e-journals with the type of periodicals according to the newlinefrequency, subjects and geographicals. The study stresses on the journals and ejournals newlineuse in the library and the software used for housekeeping activities of newlineperiodicals. newlineThe study reveals the space for periodical section, furniture provided by the newlinecollege libraries. The study dealt with the different reading services pertaining to the newlineperiodicals i.e. News paper clipping services, Content services, Abstracting services, newlineTranslation services, CAS, SDI, Indexing services and download of e-journals and its newlinerelated services etc. The study is not only limited to the acquire or subscription newlineincluding services of periodicals but it also focused on the security, controlling, stock newlineverification and weeding out of the periodicals in the college libraries. newlineSection of periodicals is important for current knowledge compared to other newlinesections. Periodicals include journals to e-journals and its play the vital role in the newlineinformation dissemination in the academic community. College library and its newlineservices is the base for the researcher and scholars for the research work. Considering newlinethe importance of the periodicals, the researcher has given stress to study of the newlineperiodicals services on focusing different aspects of the system. newline
