Abstract
quotMobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) have witnessed an intensive research
newlineattention in the last decade from the academic and the industrial sectors. It consists of
newlinemobile hosts spread across a geographical area, connected to each other via wireless
newlinelinks in the absence of any sort of infrastructure. They are self-organizing, selfconfiguring
newlineand self-healing wireless networks.
newlineRouting is a complex issue in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET)
newlinedue to its dynamic and frequently changing network topology. Route failures,
newlinepacket collision, bad channel condition and congestion are to be considered
newlinewhile designing reliable routing protocol in MANET, since these factors tends
newlineto increase the packet loss and degrade the bandwidth and battery power. Reliable
newlinerouting protocols for mobile ad hoc networks use many link reliability metrics for
newlinefinding these links; four of the most commonly used are Link Expiration Time ,
newline Link Received Signal Strength , Residual Energy and Available Bandwidth . It is
newlineshown that these metrics enhance the reliability and reduce the number of route
newlinereconstructions. However, minimization of packet loss, communication overhead are
newlinea challenging task to improve the performance. The complexity of networks that
newlineoffers multimedia services requires the consideration of multiple routing metrics for
newlinerouting decisions. The most important metrics that should be considered for
newlinemultimedia services are: delay, bandwidth, jitter, losses etc.quot
