Law relating to films vis a vis freedom of expression a socio legal study

Abstract

Films are one of the most important tools of expression since its inception years back. The relationship between right of free expression with certain riders provided under Article 19(2) is rather queer. The films in India have suffered more than eight decades of censorship. The whole process of film certification needs to be contemporized to keep the process with the changed time and circumstances. The censor board needs to relook and revisit as the rulebook was written in 1952. There is a great need to deal with the issues of film piracy, corruption, and nepotism. It is high time to implement the suggestions of various committees such as the Khosla committees formed to reform the working of CBFC. newline
