Relationship of Childhood Sexual Abuse with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder during Adulthood

Abstract

Introduction: Previous studies suggest that early life events influence how people develop their newlinepersonalities and moral character. The life of an individual is scarred for life if they are abused in newlinetheir childhood, especially if the abuse is sexual in nature and that too against females. newlineChildhood sexual abuse has been linked to a number of mental health issues in adults. In this newlinestudy, it is suggested that childhood sexual abuse (CSA) and obsessive-compulsive disorder newline(OCD) in adults are positively correlated. newlineMethods: This is an exploratory-descriptive study performed in quotW Pratiksha Hospital and Dear newlineMind practice clinicquot. The study has included 50 OCD patients of age 18 years- 60 years. A newlinestructured questionnaire (Y-BOCS and CSA questionnaire) was used for data collection. newlineResults: The study has found that, 44% of the patients are between the ages of 31 and 40 years. newlineMost CSA reports were from OCD patients who were female. According to the findings, there is newlinea direct relationship between childhood sexual abuse and OCD in adulthood. According to the newlinefindings, CSA was experienced by the majority of female OCD patients (91.6%), but only 28.5% newlineof male OCD patients reported having been sexually abused as children. newlineConclusions: The present study has concluded that people who have CSA are more likely newlineto grow up with OCD. The findings of the present study provide further evidence for establishing newlinethe association between childhood sexual abuse and OCD among females. The research has newlineattempted to explore the relationship between CSA and OCD. The author has not tried to indicate newlineany causation based on this correlational study. newline
