Abstract
A controller is a device which monitors and affects the operational
newlineconditions of a dynamic system In process industries most of the problems
newlineare multivariable in nature The controller has the adjustable parameters
newlinewhich should be tuned properly to achieve required steady state and transient
newlinestate performances The tuning of controller for the multivariable system is
newlinereally challenging due to the interactions among the variables Various control
newlinestrategy like optimal control robust control intelligent control adaptive
newlinecontrol and stochastic control has been successfully implemented in industrial
newlineapplications Inspite of this more than 90 of the industrial controllers are
newlinebased on the ProportionalIntegralDerivative PID controllers The reason
newlinefor the wide popularity of PID controller is for the simplicity clear
newlinefunctionality applicability and robustness in nature
