Study on sapf topologies and investigations on influence of pwm strategies in the performance of three phase boost rectifier

Abstract

In recent years, quality of input power is a major cause of concern for newlineelectrical and electronic devices as well as electrical power consumers. newlineHarmonic distortion is one of the critical power quality issues, caused by nonlinearity newlineof utility/industrial loads like Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS), newlineVariable Frequency Drives (VFD), induction furnaces, arc welding machines, newlineconventional/Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS) and battery charging newlineunits. Rapid growth of small and large scale grid-connected renewable energy newlinesources injects harmonics into the power system network. The negative newlineeffects of harmonics are conductor overheating, degradation of capacitor life, newlinefalse operation of circuit breakers, and increased iron and copper loss in newlinetransformers, generators, and distribution lines. The international standard newlineIEEE 519-1992/2014 specifies the voltage and current harmonic limits for newlinevarious voltage levels. In India, Central Electricity Authority (CEA), and newlineState Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERC) specify the current newlineharmonic regulations. As per Tamil Nadu electricity regulatory commission, a newlinepenalty has been imposed for those customers who fail to maintain the current newlineharmonics below the permissible limits as specified by CEA regulations. newlineHowever, several case study reports by Asia Power Quality Initiative (APQI) newlineshow that possibilities for huge energy saving options are available by newlineimproving the quality of power. newline newline
